Our Hudson Valley Guide
There is a strong community of hard-working business owners who support each other. This continues to blow us away with each passing day we’ve spent here. There is a robust network of people willing to share, teach and create together and that has made our life here so much more fulfilling than we imagined.
WINE | Brunette Wine Bar
They have a beautiful jewel box of a space with a lovely selection of some of our favorite wines. The owners, Jamie and Tracy, man the bar and always have something new to recommend.

LUNCH | Daughters Fare & Ale
This is our go to spot for lunch on our days off. They make amazing sausages that we serve at the restaurant, so don’t miss their Kielbasa or Merguez. But I personally think they make the best grilled cheese. Also be sure to get some beer while you’re there or fill up a growler, as they always have a fresh selection of special beers.

SOAPS & PROTEINS | Sawkill Farm
We also visiting our friends Kallie and Michael. Their farmstore sells beef, pork, chicken and eggs. Kallie also makes these incredible tallow soaps that are so luxurious. Try the bergamot one, it’s my favorite.

APPLE CIDER | Montgomery Place Orchards
You should definitely try heirloom apples from Montgomery Place Orchards. They have an incredible selection of apples and they take care and pride in everything they grow and sell. They have samples to try and one of the lovely ladies of MPO will likely sway you towards a variety you’ve never heard of like Pitmaston Pine Apple. Don’t miss their cider or jam and definitely pick up a decorative pumpkin in the fall. The uglier the better.

OUR RESTAURANT | Gaskins
You can’t go wrong with our grass-fed burger. We make the sesame seed bun and I think it's squishy and perfect. The ground beef is from Kinderhook Farm. Lee & Georgia Ranney at Kinderhook were two of our first friends in Columbia County and their warmth and generosity helped sway us to make the move to the Hudson Valley. People also love our roasted beet salad for its simplicity. It's roasted beets served with creme fraiche, toasted pistachios and red onions. We've converted quite a few beet haters with this one.

Germantown Variety Store & Otto’s Market
We are pretty spoiled having Otto’s & The Variety Store across the street from us in Germantown. They’ll transport you to another time.
EAT & DRINK
BREAKFAST | Bonfiglio & Bread
Without a doubt, they have the best breakfast around. We love their home-made bialy. Nick gets the smoked salmon and I get the Kate Smith-- with mushrooms, egg, cream cheese and greens. Trust me. We also use their delicious bread at the restaurant.
748 Warren Street, Hudson, NY 12534
COFFEE | Moto Coffee/Machine
This is our go-to spot for a coffee when we are running errands or enjoying a day off. They use a rotating selection of high quality coffee roasters, including Tandem Coffee Roasters from Portland Maine, who is also our supplier at Gaskins.

BRUNCH & BEER | Rivertown Lodge
We are really excited about the newly opened Rivertown Lodge in Hudson. We've had the pleasure of staying in their chic and comfortable rooms. But what we're really looking forward to is cocktails by the fire in the lobby, beers in their newly opened Bar and brunch on the weekends! I hear the waffle is insane.

SNACK | Talbott & Arding
This is the perfect place to stop for a snack or a sweet treat. They have prepared foods, sandwiches and the tastiest hand-pies. Their house-made cookies are also my favorite, especially the coconut macaroons. If they are serving chocolate cake make sure to get a big fat slice. Often I’ll get a cup of their bouillon instead of coffee.

COFFEE & COCKTAILS | Wm. Farmer & Sons
They make a perfect cortado. Their beans are from Irving Farm Roasters in Millerton, NY. Their little cafe is attached to a beautiful new hotel, restaurant and bar. We also often find ourselves on nights off having dinner at the bar here, where we inevitably run into lots of other local business owners enjoying a cocktail.

POLENTA | Hudson Farmers Market
We come here to buy Sparrowbush Farm’s polenta, cornmeal or popcorn. It's is an ideal edible souvenir. They grow the corn and freshly mill the polenta and cornmeal, making it the most perfect version you’ve ever tried. We use their polenta from our lemon polenta cake and the cornmeal in our fried chicken. They are at the Hudson Farmer’s Market every Saturday.

Nick and Sarah Suarez + Gaskins
"Gaskins is a gathering place for the community and an extension of our home. The food we serve uses exceptional ingredients from nearby farms, but just as importantly, is nourishing and satisfying. We aim to be a haven; a place you can feast and celebrate or just drop by for a quick beer. Nothing makes us happier than when the farmers who grow our food can come eat with us at the restaurant, because hopefully it means we are helping to make their businesses more robust and successful with our purchases. We’ve chosen a life as chef and host, so we can do what we love: feed and take care of people."
